Minneapolis Beef

It's been a little bit since I've posted about my burger quest and still have a few to drop on you. But for now let's talk about the burger that I had this past weekend in MPLS shall we? Let's just say this was some of the finest beef I've ever tasted, I can't remember that actual name that it had on the menu but it had something to do with being a rice burger. It was great, the fries were extra crispy and to top it off with an all natural Cola just made it complete!

Hot Pants & Jameson

Man I tell you, Minneapolis gets it in! I had the opportunity to play records at the Deep Funk and Rare Soul night, Hot Pants. First let me say that it was an honor to spin with the Hot Pants DJ because these guys have great records, I'm talking the rarest of rare soul, Texas funk, deep funk and more. I was completely blown away by not only their selection but also the amazing crowd of dancing people that love Northern soul like it was all that they had in life. I got to play a bunch of soul 45's that I don't usually get to play at Hot Peas so for me it was like a kid in a candy store.

Melted Butta

Finally back and relaxed from a great weekend in Minneapolis for Hot Peas and Butta. Had a great time rocking out there with the homies DJ King Otto, Mike2600 and Supreme La Rock. Everybody came with their "A" game and spun everything from Funk, Soul, 80's Boogie, Hip Hop and even a reggae joint all on 45. And believe me it wasn't your average hits that everyone should have in the crates, we went deeper than space 9! Since I had never been to Minneapolis I really didn't know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised that the place was packed by the time 11:30 rolled around. Looking forward to making a return trip out there in the near future.

Thank you to everyone that attended the first of hopefully many more Twin Cities Hot Peas and Butta!

Be sure to check the Hot Peas and Butta site in a few days for all the pics.

Hot Peas and Butta 3D 3 Yr Anniversary

Time is really zipping by these days but I'm really excited to be celebrating the Hot Peas and Butta 3D 3 Year Anniversary. We've got a great lineup of DJ's for the night, in addition to myself and Amir we've got very special guests Monk One (Wax Poetics) and Chairman Mao (BumpShop / Ego Trip) on deck with us. Now your probably asking yourself what's up with the 3D right? Well here's how it's gonna go down.... It's our 3rd anniversary so we're celebrating in 3D. That means in addition to all of the funk & soul goodness that your gonna hear, we're putting together a fine selection of classic 3D trailers and movie snippets combined with the already quality viewing that your used to. But that's not all, to keep in Hot Peas fashion we're giving away goodie packs to the first 100 people and included in that bag will be a pair of classic 3D glasses just in case you wanna experience the night in a totally different way.

If your walking around or shopping in NYC within the next week or two and you see a flyer be sure to pick it up. The flyer you see will most likely be in 3D with glasses attached, yes we're taking this 3D thing to the extreme but it would be Hot Peas and Butta if we didn't!

Be sure to RSVP asap on the Hot Peas site! www.hotpeasandbutta.com

Hot Peas and Butta 3yr Review Pt 4

The uniqueness in the Hot Peas and Butta brand is all about paying homage to a time and place that brings you back to when things were oh so simple. Film plays a major part in our lives as you can probably tell if you've ever been to our parties or you've the flyer designs that The Elroy Jenkins produces. So I've decided to pull up some of my favorite designs that we've used for posters, lobby cards and other collectible items. Be sure to check out the Hot Peas store on our site for prints, boxsets and other cool items.

The first of my favorite is the Bullies & Brothels party that we did with guest DJ Supreme La Rock and special pop up guest DJ who just happened to be walking down the street with a box of 45's Cosmo Baker. There were 2 posters (1 unused) and a lobby card done for the event, the unused poster was typical of the 70's one sheets in using only 2 colors. This party was our homage to old Times Square 42nd Street theaters that played Kung Fu flix and Porn.

Hot Peas and Butta 3yr Review Pt 3

Continuing on with the Hot Peas and Butta 3 year review I have to dive back into the photo archives to re-live one of the freshest moments which was the Black Dynamite movie making it's debut at the Tribeca Film Festival in NYC. This was a great opportunity that was put on us and we knew that we couldn't just do the same old "release" party jazz. So instead just as in the movie, we payed homage to the blaxploitation era by showcasing a few posters from my collection to bring everything together within the theme of the evening. A gallery feel, with me providing the Hot Peas and Butta soundtrack courtesy of dusty old 45's to a packed house of incredible people that came out to support the event including Black Dynamite himself Michael Jai White. This was an incredible night indeed and really shows that sometimes you have to go the extra mile, anyone can play records but to capture the essence of the theme and throw a unique party is something else.

"Now thats a tasty beverage" - Samuel Jackson

Nothing like a Sunday afternoon beer on a nice day. Today's choice is a cold Augusiner Brau from Munich Germany, there are different versions but I'm running with the Edelstoff.

Here's to the beer champions club, Michah and The Elroy Jenkins!

Crazy Legs live in the 215

Had a great time last night at Fluid Night Club in Philly with my peoples. The homies Dirty and Ultraviolet brought my Rock Steady family Crazy Legs down for a special DJ set. Alot of people in the building rocking to Legs droppin' Hip Hop, Classics, Breaks, House and more while I was on Mic control. Word to the fam Brotha Ron for being on hand to snap a few pics of the evening.

Hot Peas and Butta 3yr Review Pt 2

As we continue a look back on our 3 year journey through Hot Peas and Butta I want to give a few shouts to some of those special guests that came through to support and rock with us worldwide.
