Winning Takes Care of Everything

F*ck yeah Tiger!  I love the fact that Tiger Woods is back on his game and playing incredible golf, what I don't like is the jealous hatred that goes on towards to guy.  Outsiders can't separate the fact that he's is a top athlete playing his sport versus them not liking him personally for obvious reasons.  Although Tiger has used the "Winning Takes Care of Everything" slogan in many press conferences he didn't create the ad which Nike and Woods are catching flack for.  C'mon people, you guys are taking a "sport" way too serious, worry about your 401k or why the country is in such a messed up situation instead.

I usually embrace all the hate and silent haters in my life, that are miserable in theirs.

I Love Vinyl Amsterdam

It's always lovely when you get to play a string of amazing parties and that run hasn't stopped yet.  Last night I spun a set at the I Love Vinyl Amsterdam party with a lineup of DJ's that really go in and put it down for the people.  It was good to be on the lineup with I Love Vinyl New York resident, Ge-ology considering that we've never spun together on our home soil but I guess it takes traveling to foreign lands to link up which seems to be the case a lot these days.  I have to give Rob Manga the extra shout for the hook up on the night, thank you sir. And to Mr. Mendel and Illco, it was a pleasure rocking with you guys on the night.  Salute!

Boogie Juice Recap

Had a great time last weekend in Copenhagen rocking with the homies at the Boogie Juice party.  Definitely one of those nights where you can go all out, play what you play and do what you do which is what I like to do.  No constraints, just get into your zone and take the people on a magical musical journey across genres.  As always the Boogie Juice crew shows visuals based off of their love of video games and Street Fighter was the theme this go around and they actually brought in a Street Fighter Arcade machine and a couple others for the night.

Sex and stuff....

I miss "old" 42nd Street Times Square and Chestnut Street in Philly, everything from the theaters that once showed a variety of B-movies and blockbusters, to the bright lights of billboards and porn shops.  But Amsterdam's Red Light District is one place that still has that feeling, minus the theaters of course.

It's funny how in the States things like this are frowned upon, yet everyone has sex.  If you make a big deal about something then it becomes a big deal, but when things are natural then it becomes something thats normal.

A Taste of Suriname

One of the great things about traveling is always enjoying foods that you might not be able to get at home.  One of my routines when traveling to Rotterdam is always stopping on the avenue to enjoy my favorite Suriname dish.  This is just like enjoying Soul food back home.

Fit For A King

Got to hang out last night with one of the freshest dudes around who knows how to enjoy the finer things in life like food and beer.  The homie Jurskee took me to this all you can eat Sushi spot called Sumo here in Amsterdam for a feast fit for a king.  The flat fee price was definitely worth it and everything was fresh but the catch is, if you order it then you must eat it or you'll have to pay for what you don't eat.  Ok simple enough, I haven't eaten all day so I'm going all in.

Copenhagen Fresh

Last weekend in Copenhagen was an amazing.  Got to DJ Floor Wars 2013 and then Boogie Juice After party which was just crazy.  I rocked a 3 hour set from 2:30am until 5:30am and people still didn't want to go home.  Much love to everyone in Copenhagen!

30 Years of Wild Style

This past weekend marks the 30th anniversary of when the Charlie Ahern classic, Wild Style hit theaters.  Even though this film is highly regarded as the go to film on Hip Hop culture it wasn't we'll received by the masses.  Back in the mid 2000's maybe 04 / 05 during First Friday which is a monthly event in Philly where all of the galleries around the area have special events, I was blessed with being asked to DJ for the Wild Style Reunion event at a Gallery called Union 237 which was which featured special guests Charlie Ahearn, Dr. Revolt, Lady Pink and Lil Rodney C (Funky 4+1 / Double Trouble).  During the event which displayed many pictures, stills and works from the early days of Hip Hop Ahearn talked about the film and how it was received by cities and theaters and confirmed what I already knew.  Being as though Philly is the 2nd city of Hip Hop and the 1st city of Graffiti (for those that don't know, it's right next door to NY and basically the same things were going on in both places at the same time).  Ahearn's statement was that Philly is a primary reason for Wild Style being such the success that it was.  He said when it first released in theaters it played in three markets, New York, Philadelphia, and Chicago.  The movie played in Chicago for 1 week then was pulled, it played in New York for 6 months but it played in theaters in Philadelphia for 1 year.  It was definitely good to hear him say that.

Anyway, I've seen Wild Style multiple times in the theaters.  Once during it's original run, the second time at the Eric Terminal theater which was located right under the train station in Philly as a triple feature shown as Wild Style, Beat Street and Breakin.  I remember being mad that I had to sit through Breakin because I really wanted to see Beat Street and then of course loving the fact that I saw Beat Street and then Wild Style directly afterwards.  That was a perfect Sunday afternoon for me.

Shouts to Charlie Ahearn for creating such a masterpiece that will forever be a defining moment in Hip Hop history.

Living The Dream

Ever since getting my first set of turntables in 1981 I've loved being a DJ, the music and the all around culture of DJing.  I never set out to be "famous" but always wanted to be all city which eventually led to me being all world.  As a kid I never thought about it in a deep manor because I was involved with the culture at the same time as it was growing versus people who got into it in the 90's or later getting involved as it was already fully grown.  But in retrospect it has always been a dream to be able to do what I wanted to in life and be happy doing it at the same time.  Knowing that I don't have to sacrifice the art nor the love of the music by playing shit that I don't believe in just for the sake of getting a check and satisfying club owners.  Yet I get to travel the globe blessing people with great timeless music, new and old and still rock out for packed clubs.

Dreams do come true.

48 Hours in Zurich, The Layover

Finally back in Amsterdam after an amazing weekend in my second home of Switzerland.  Zurich always treats me right and I never seem to tire of the sights or the people.
