Stompin thru your neighborghood!

If your in San Fran this weekend here's a little something thats worth checking out.

TokyoScope Talk Vol. 3: WAR OF THE GIANT MONSTERS 5/7 in SF

For this show, August, Tomo, and myself will be showing our very favorite moments from Kaiju film history, making for a giant monster sized greatest-hits package in the process. We will be giving away pre-release copies of Shout! Factory's new Gamera: The Giant Monster along with some other goodies.

Why giant monsters this time? Well, NEW PEOPLE has a killer announcement that I don't want to spoil until they give the green light. In meantime, look for a press release and more updates as they come in.

A Burger with Soul!

Still questin' for that perfect burger! While out in DC yesterday doing an event my homie Phil called me up and told me that he has an ill burger spot just 15 mins away in Arlington VA. So I decided to brave the horrible traffic and make the run over there, and it was well worth it! We arrived at Rays Hell Burger which was packed with people enjoying an afternoon of burgers and convo. First let me say that the quality of beef is up to par and everything is fresh. Also, it has to be a good burger because President Obama eats here on an occassion. There was alot on the menu that looked good but the one thing that stood out and hit home with me was the "Soul Burger Number One". Could this be a sign from Soul Brother Number 1 James Brown!?

Throwback Soul

The throwback pic of the week is the cover for a cd that I did back in 2004 called Sweet Soul Sistas. No need to explain whats on it that should be a no brainer. Whats dope about this is how my many Downroc designed this full sized cd case with inserts and back, he really took time with it and hand drew the custom lettering. Haven't listened to this in a long time so maybe I'll give it a spin on this nice spring day.

Hot Peas & Butta x DUG was dumb amounts of fun, and the people of Seattle showed it! We had the chance to have something truly unique at this event, a free DIY-digital-instant-photo-booth! Main man Jimmy from Usnaps.com hooked us up! I am telling you, you give people a free camera and they get loose! You gotta love it! Check out the flicks at www.hotpeasandbutta.com Be sure to holler at my man Jimmy at Usnaps.com if you want the booth at your event, trust me….you’ll love it.

A little R & R.

Just what the doctor ordered, a little rest and relaxation. After a crazy weekend I pretty much slept my entire Tuesday away with no contact of the outside world. I haven't a good meal or sit down time much lately so it was nice to have a home cooked meal and spend time in the basement on one of my classic arcade machines.

Lobster raviolli, scallops and shrimp

Olives, mozzarella, prosciutto, tomatoes

Gettin a little classic Tempest on.

Sittin on top of "The Bay"

Once again with minimal sleep its time to rock The Bay Area! The Bay Area had a great vibe to it, mad heads came out to support and enjoy the party which they have been hearing so much about. Jus Jones, Supreme La Rock and myself laid down some good shit the entire night but for me the highlight was definitely the 1 for 1 segment at the end where we went back to back drop one record for about a 1/2 hour.

On the way to The Bay!

So after doing HPB x DUG on Friday night, The Tighten Up on Saturday night we went right back to the lab to pack up and head for the airport for San Francisco. This was a crazy few days with minimal sleep and running on the last of our fuel reserves but I wouldn't trade this for the world. Once we arrive in San Fran we hit a few records spots, meet up with The 22nd Pupil and homegirl Crix for a little breakfast.

Great minds travel alike.

Rockin' Seatown!

Ok so this past weekend the Hot Peas and Butta gang linked up those funky DUG DJ's for a double your pleasure one night affair. When we arrived at the airport my man Supreme was right on time and scooped us up to run a few errands and hit a few record spots then grab something to eat. From there it was back to the headquarters to get some rest in for the Hot Peas and Butta x DUG party.

Of Course I found some gems here, I always do!

The party was incredible, the people of Seatown really danced the night away with us.

Seattles Finest, Supreme La Rock

HPB x DUG DJ's. Round 2 coming soon!

Damn thats an ill backdrop!

Hey ladies!

Weirdness of the week

Aight so I was in Urbana Illinois and stayed on the campus at the Illini Building. The first thing I thought of on the way to my room was, "Damn this looks like the hallway from the Shinning with Jack Nicholson".

The search continues....

So two weeks ago I was in Urbana Illinois doing an event and as always I have to stop into a record spot that I always find some good piece. But I also found a new spot that not only has records but toys as well, and you know how much I geek out when I find a spot that has all of the above!

Questin' for a burger

If you know me or have been reading the blog then you know Im always on the quest for the ultimate burger. Well last week I was back in Urbana Illinois where the quest and blogging originally began and the first time I ate at the Courier Cafe. It felt good to return there once again.

Seattle Bound

Aight so I finally finished packing everything at 1am but still had to get up at 430am to catch my 730am flight. After 3 hours of sleep I was off to the airport and arrived with it being totally empty which is great for going thru security. Once thru I had to do my usual ritual, Chick Fil A. I kept it light this go around since I knew I would be eating on the plane.

After a little breakfast its time to board the plane, I always love getting first class on long flights. Just enough space to stretch and zone out.

Once on board its time for a quick nap before we take off then wake up just in time for breakfast and a good read. It was a pleasant surprise when I saw this add in the new issue of Wax Poetics. Word to Big Pimp Jones!

After another quick nap I decide to get into the Seattle state of mind and watch this old mini documentary of my partner Supreme.

After starring at the clouds for a sec its time for another nap before we land. Seattle here we come.

The Tighten Up

While out on this Hot Peas and Butta mission I'll be making a second appearance in Seatown at The Tighten Up. Swing thru and check me out as I drop some goodness!

West coast trippin'

This week I'll be heading out to do a couple of Hot Peas and Butta dates in Seattle with the DUG DJ's and my man Supreme La Rock on Friday. Then on Sunday Supreme, The 22nd Pupil and myself will be heading to San Francisco to link up with my man Jus Jones for the Bay area edition of Hot Peas. Got alot to do before heading out though, as always I've gotta put footage together and go thru 45's which is always a task in itself. Definitely looking forward to getting away for a bit though.

Mixwell

Ok so a few posts back I talked about one of my favorite mixers from back in the day the Gemini MX-2200 which came out around 89. Come to find out that alot of people liked that mixer and DJ Scratch from EPMD actually has 2 of them still in the box which I thought was dope. But I need to take it a step further, while most have had or used the 2200 at one time how many people still have or even have spun on the OG version of that mixer which came out in 82/83?? Bueller? Bueller? Anyone? Oh, I guess that would be me. Yup, still sitting on a minty fresh MX-1100 which was probably the first mixer that I actually bought myself. This was definitely a standard amongst DJ's like Jazzy Jeff and Cash Money.

Campus Livin'

Bounce out to Urbana Illinois this past weekend to spin at IL Breaks 7. My man Jenkin and his crew take really good care of me any time that I'm out there but this time was on another level. They knew that I've always wanted to stay right on campus instead of a hotel so they set me up in the Illini building suites which is where guests, speakers and others visitors stay. Its right in the center of a beautiful campus and has a dope food court in the basement of the building with none other than my favorite, Chick Fil A. In addition to that it has a bowling alley, arcade and a few other eating spots, just like a mini mall. Good looking guys, see you again next year!

Classic Arcades

I don't bandwagon and jump on things early or ever for that matter but if this was real I would definitely be the first in line for this shit! But I gotta be able to play at least 100 of my favorite classics.

Woke up this morning in a really good mood so I decided to put together a quick feel good mix for the day. Nothing fancy just some good shit to listen to.

Enjoy!
