Sweden (Day 2)

Ok this is more like it, today started out early as usual with me waking up at the crack of dawn which is arond 7:30am. Went downstairs to grab some breakfast and get mentally prepared for the day. The only job for me today was to speak on the panel discussion which is simple. The 3 hour panel discussion went pretty quick especially when you have so many people on the stage but I think it enlighten some people that aren't involved in this culture so thats always a plus. After the panel is was basically just building with cats, exchanging business cards and scheduling my next trips to Europe. Also while the building is going on there walls were being bombed with the freshest burners and pieces, shit is so dope when all of the elements are coexisting together properly. Lunch was next then off to this art gallery party showcasing various graff photographs from writers all over Europe. Five or so beers later its back to the park to catch Jeru The Damaja and J-Ro from The Alkaholics performing. Always dope to hear Jeru do "Come Clean" and other classic joints! Bumped into Maylay Sparks as well who will be performing tonight and also Wildchild from Lootpack.

On my way to Sweden!

I've decided to give a quick breakdown of the start of what is sure to be an amazing weekend.

I woke up bright and early to prepare for my travels to Sweden for the Urban Arts Manifestation event in Malomoe Sweden. As always I start out with a bowl of Franken Berry or Boo Berry cereal, a few reruns of Saturday morning cartoons on Boomerang and top it off with a quick game of House of the Dead on the Dreamcast. After gathering my final records together I head out to the airport to officially start my travels. The International Urban Arts Manifestation is an event that bridges the elements of Hip Hop culture into two days of panels and discussion, live graff, DJ's, MC's and Bboys. It's a who's who list of some of the best in the game worldwide. Legendary graff writers like Doc TC5, Wane and Ket (NYC), Mode2 (UK), DazeRoc (San Diego), MC's Jeru The Damaja, Maylay Sparks, J-RO (Alkaholics), Wildchild (L.A.) Bboys Freeze (Ghost Crew), Alien Ness (MZK), DJ's Kid Skraam and more. There's an easy 100 or so panelists and contributors plus everyone from all over europe that will be attending. Live walls being painted all weekend long plus the opening all day hip hop barbeque.

DAY 1 - Travel To Sweden for The Urban Arts Manifestation

The first day of travel to Sweden for the International Urban Arts Manifestation was a rough one. My flight was supposed depart today, Wednesday at 2:50pm to Washington, DC then a 4:50pm flight to Copenhagen but instead my 2:50pm flight was going to be 2 hours late so they rescheduled me to a 4:50 flight (which was also late) to make a connecting flight departing to Frankfurt Germany at 9:50pm and another connection to Copenhagen. So what started out as a 10 hour travel time has turned into 29 hours, three planes instead of two and my original time of arrival was 7:15am but now is 5:15pm. This is a great life but there's alot of turbulence in between!

2nd Layover (Frankfurt Germany)

Gotta eat something on the plane

I Cant Sleep at Night!

So I've started another blog in addition to this one. Those people that know me know that Im a collector of many things but my video collection on VHS of old tv shows, movies, cartoons, concert footage and more is deep than the average crates so in this case Im diggin in tapes! So the new blog is about my childhood as well as adulthood addiction to late night tv shows, Saturday morning cartoons and afternoon Kung Fu flix. You name it and it was the shit back in the 70's & 80's I've probably got it stashed away. So I've thrown previews, commercials, show intros and more on there. There are alot of serious collectors out there especially sports collectors that have every game (Basketball, Baseball, Football etc)dating back to before the Beta Max days! I recently read a story in ESPN magazine about this underground tape collecting / trading culture.

Shouts to cats who are serious with their collections especially my partner in crime, Fredy Blast and the Diabolical Biz Markie!

Give it a read.

The Science Behind It All

"People get emotionally, romantically, intellectually attached to artwork. Because art, through the ages, is man's reflection on his times. And it's exciting to have a piece of that. It's a love affair. It's way more exciting than holding a share of IBM."

Say word!

Diggin in the closet. When was the last time you've seen one of these? For some not since the 70's, for others never! This joint was made of felt and had all the astrological sex positions, nice size and perfect for hanging up in a blacklit room so that it glows! Peep the afro's on the the soul bro's and sisters!

Inglorious Basterds

Peep the ill accents their using ie: Basterds not Bastards.
I think Im gonna watch Resevoir Dogs tonight, maybe have a Quentin Tarantino movie marathon this weekend.

The Tarantino Mixtape

Quentin Tarantino is one of my favorite directors for some obvious reasons, his love Kung Fu, Blaxploitation and War movies which are three of my favorite genres that I enjoy most. So when I recently peeped this I thought it was kinda dope.

Neck Bitin' Soul Brother.

Pulled a little something out of the closet today which I actually kinda forgot about, a Japanese version of Blacula! I always love the way Japanese versions of posters look, the art is always great and the lettering just sets it over the top.

Hell Yeah!

Thats what I said when my homegirl / Graff writer / record store owner / art gallery owner now magazine owner Queen Tash from Australia asked me to write for her new magazine, Hell Yeah. Hell Yeah is a new art, lifestyle, music, culture magazine being released this summer with an initial run of 10,000 copies. Instantly I had to figure out who or what I wanted to write about so I made a call to my co-writer, Mark Wong and photographer Steve Believe and immediately swung thru to my peoples (fill in the blank) to get an interview and do a photoshoot. Definitely looking forward to the upcoming mag so I'll keep you updated on the release.
