The Pull List
Not much in the way of this weeks pick ups from the comic shop but two highly recommended series are Dark Shadows and The Shadow. Both have amazing art and story lines plus capture a nostalgic pulp magazine feel throughout.
Who Shot Ya!?
Great times 2 weeks ago in NYC for the 8th Wonder James Brown Tribute party, a lot of folks came through including legendary Photographer Ricky Powell who hung out in the DJ booth the entire night.

Product Thought
Probably the illest promo I've ever seen for a Hip Hop album. Looking forward to this one dropping, everything from the sounds to the Kirby inspired Marvel artwork was done correctly.
Seeing Vancouver
Had an amazing time in Vancouver this weekend DJing for Big Trouble In Little Vancouver. It's always refreshing to fly over to the West Coast and enjoy it's hospitality, sights and great foods.
Funk Night Catalog
Coming home after a long weekend in Vancouver and finding that the Postman has dropped a pallet full of packages off at your door is the perfect way to start your day. Shouts to Frank Raines over at Funk Night Records for sending the extra fresh shipment of some choice pieces from his label. This guy is super official and I never would've expected this type of service! Thank you sir.
Fresh Folks
I've been getting a lot of love from local brands who are trying to find their place in the fashion world so it's only right that I show love back to them. Local Netherlands brand Fresh Folks just send me a care package filled with t shirts, stickers and other goodies. Thank you for the send out, I definitely appreciate it and wish you all the luck on your journey in the design world!

Nine Vancouver
Shouts to the homies at Nine in Vancouver for lacing me up with a goodie bag and this snapback while I was out there this past weekend. They definitely have some fresh things coming your way, not bad for a local brand striving to do things in a major way. Be sure to check them out at www.ninevancouver.com
Salvador Dali
I've been a fan of Dali's work for the last 15 years or so after going to see an exhibit of his at a local museum, so this will definitely be making it's way into my book collection.
Rizzoli's Flammarion imprint is set to release a new book on the works of Salvador Dali: The Making of an Artist which is an extensive volume that looks into the artist's development and influence. The new book goes beyond Dali's work with painting to include other media including literature, photography, film and sculpture.
From Dali's Mae West Lips Sofa and the Lobster Telephone, Salvador Dali: The Making of an Artist takes you through his multi-disciplinary work. Modern day artists influence by Dali are also featured including Warhol, Koons and Murakami.
Available March 5th.

Can I Count It Off!?
This past weekends 8th Wonder James Brown Tribute party was definitely one for the books. It seemed as though everyone in New York was at that party all enjoying, grooving, moving ya know, can I count it off!? But seriously, the placed was packed with fly gents and beautiful ladies the entire night and by 12:30am the spot was way past capacity and in full swing. To start the night out Hot Peas & Butta's Kamui Sumida warmed up the crowd before I got on the decks for my hour set, after that it was all Monk One and Cosmo Baker dropping gems and going 2 for 2 for the next 2 hours! To make it even more complete, the Funky Uncle and legendary New York Photographer Ricky Powell stayed in the DJ booth the entire time bugging out with us. In addition to the already packed house was tons of my Philly fam, Rob Nasty from the Bay Area, Pjay, Ken Swift, Breakbeat Lou, Boogie Blind, DJ Prestige, Mfasis and a who's who list of royalty.
Here's a few pics from my camera but be on the look out for the full recap with professional photos on the Hot Peas & Butta site in the next few days.

Quarters and Beer
Had a chance to link up with the homies King Britt and Red Kraus last night for a fella's night out enjoying an amazing assortment of beers and playing 80's arcade games. It's always good when there's a break in everyone's travel schedule and the stars align for us to catch up and hang out.
Classic Wall Coverings
Wednesday is one of my favorite days of the week, not because it's hump day in which most 9 to 5'ers start looking forward to their weekends, but for me it's all about the pull list aka new release Wednesday and me taking a ride to the comic shop to pick up what's new plus a few classics off the walls.
Raekwon Done Came Up
There's a lot of tracks that drop with the new kids on the block and they get beats from the go to guys on the production side then people go goo goo and gah gah over some below average shit and honestly I'm usually never impressed. But when all else fails I know I'm going to get that extra fresh shit from Raekwon, hell from Ghostface too, ah fuck it from the Wu in general. Looks like Raekwon just released a video for "Came Up" off his upcoming "Lost Jewelry" EP, definitely looking forward to it especially since he's been on a roll as of late with the albums and most other shit out there just isn't moving me (nor the crowd).
Give me an instrumental along with this and we're good money!

Available Now: Mixtape Coffee Table
Several months back Jeff Skierka Designs debuted his Cassette Tape coffee table and every DJ, Digger, Cassette head went crazy screaming "I need this". Well it looks like it's finally available to order and I'm curious how many of those screaming I need this are going to put their money down? I know several of you with good design tastes and plush homes will definitely place an order, but what about the rest of you? Let's see if this was a must have or a lot of hype.
Either way Jeff Skierka is very talented and followed his vision to design this amazing table. Support the DIY guys of the world!

Still Playing With Toys
By now I'm sure most of the followers of this blog, Hot Peas & Butta and anything else that I have going on is aware of my passion for collecting toys but recently we've been tossing around the idea of doing a limited edition figures loosely based off of 70's Kung Fu flix and what better test subject to be the model than myself, the nostalgia kind. It's kind of cool to have a Mini Me sitting on my desk.
Chelles Battle Pro
Lining up some gigs for this year and it looks like it's going to be a heavy travel schedule going on for most part of the year. Heading out to France the first weekend of March but will be in Europe from the last week of February until April so if your a promoter and you've got an open date and have been trying to book me then do so now since I'll be in your area for a minute.
The Art and Culture of The Barber
I respect anyone who really takes their craft series and the Barber is definitely one that has changed over the years but remained the same over the years.
Big Trouble 4
Heading out to Vancity later this month to DJ at Big Trouble in Little Vancouver once again. This time I'll be rocking with the homie DJ Static from We Funk Radio.

The Keystone Greats
Last Saturday night in Pittsburgh was definitely one for the record books as two of the Keystone States great collide for one amazing party as TitleTown met Hot Peas & Butta. Steel City definitely knew how to come prepared ready to sweat as Jay Malls and myself rocked a packed house with strictly Funk & Soul 45's. It was an honor to rock with Jay once again and also and honor to finally play records for the people of TitleTown. Thank you to everyone that came out on a cold snowy night!
Visiting the Phipps Conservatory
Had a great time this past weekend in Pittsburgh while gearing up to spin records with the homie Jay Malls at TitleTown. I actually had a chance to visit a few places while out which I rarely get to do in a short time period of visiting. One of the places was the Phipps Conservatory which was really beautiful and had amazing Chihuly glass pieces incorporated within some of the flowers. The other highlight of visiting was seeing the seasonal large scale working train set that had up. 19 giant rooms in total to make up this building and exhibit which is definitely a must see if your visiting Steel City.
