Soundset 2011

I've been booked to DJ this year at the annual Soundset Hip Hop festival that goes down in Minnesota. The lineup looks great with acts including De La Soul, Dilated Peoples, Slaughter House, Big Boi, Zion I and more.

Doing a little last minute editing of this footage for tomorrow's Hot Peas and Butta: Tokyo Soul party while enjoying a tasty Japanese beverage! This is one of my favorite beers.

SXSW Recap in Pictures

A few pics from the recent trip to SXSW for the "Two Sevens Clash" and Record Breakin 45 Invasion parties. Had a great time rockin with the many 45 slingers at the events.

Exclusive Japanese Only Promo Giveaway

Hot Peas and Butta x Record Breakin

Originally released as a promo only CD giveaway in celebration for the Hot Peas and Butta Tokyo party held in Japan back in September 2010 and mix by DJ Skeme Richards using all 7" original vinyl records. Due to the recent events in Japan, Hot Peas and Butta has teamed up with Record Breakin' Music to re-release this mix in the form of a download that includes the original artwork which can now be purchased. All proceeds will go to a charity to help the people of Japan deal with the unfortunate events that have struck them in the past few weeks.

We have kept the price of this download low and encourage everyone to support this cause. The people of Japan have supported Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, Rare Grooves and other musical genres that have originated in our country to the fullest. They need our support.

We thank you in advance for your contribution and we hope that you enjoy this mix as much as those in Japan have since getting their first taste of Hot Peas and Butta.

100% of the proceeds go toward the Japan Earthquake & Tsunami Relief Fund via GlobalGiving.org

Breakin New Music

One of the most consistent labels to put out quality music is the UK's Breakin Bread. One of the artists that I always look forward to dropping new music is the homie Ill Boogs, this guy is a monster with the beats. The first new track that I'm really excited to play out is his new 7" The Stone Garden, this is an uptempo track that really has a Hot Peas and Butta feel to it so I'll definitely be testing it out at my next party. Be sure to support Ill Boogs and Breakin Bread with the many upcoming projects.

Back to the Alps!

Heading back to Thun Switzerland next week for Top Rock City 2011. Really excited for this and Switzerland has been becoming more and more like home these days since it seems like I'm there every other month.

Expensive Wall Habit

I've been a long to film poster collector spanning over various genres and it's good to know that these pieces of history are steadily holding it's value. Recently found out about this auction of 7 pieces being sold for $2 million dollars, not a bad investment but I don't think the total is worth that amount even if they are in mint condition.

"Up for sale are 7 posters that constitute arguably the greatest movie poster collection in the world. Certainly, one could not say that they have the greatest science fiction collection without them. Each poster is unique and the only copy known to exist. All 7 of these posters transcend the movie poster field."

Big words for a humble eBay auction page, but the final sale price of $1,950,000 should pretty much erase all doubt: eBay user "mrs. miniver" really does seem to have the best frickin' movie poster collection of all time and she's selling it piece by piece to movie fans with deep wallets. The set selling for $2 million includes posters for 'The Day the Earth Stood Still', Howard Hawks' 'The Thing From Another World,' 'When Worlds Collide,' 'The Man From Planet X,' 'The War of the Worlds,' 'Forbidden Planet' and 'Conquest of Space', all of which are apparently the only remaining copies.

Even if you aren't wealthy enough to partake in her wares (some prices are high enough that you can only imagine people un-ironically wearing top hats and monocles when buying them), browsing through her sales is enough to make any movie fan -- especially science-fiction buffs -- feel a little weak in the limbs. Check out some examples after the jump.

A look at a few of the amazing posters that were part of that multimillion-dollar sale, starting with this banner for the classic.

Money can't buy you love, but it sure can buy you a whole lot of amazing things to put on your walls.

A Cool Mil....

Looks like the economy is officially back on track since there has been a nice amount of fine art and comics books on the auction block selling for insane amounts of money.

The comic book market continues to boom as the first comic book to feature Spider-Man sold for $1.1 million through comic book auction house ComicConnect.com, the same house that sold a 1938 edition of Action Comics No. 1, featuring Superman's debut last year for a record $1.5 million. Action Comics No. 1 originally sold for 10 cents and the Marvel Spider-Man sold for 12 cents in 1962. The copy that sold is in excellent condition and the cover shows Spider Man swinging by a web. Early comic books from the 1930s to 1950s are often called Golden Age comic books. The Spider-Man comes from what is known as the Silver Age this sale may end up raising the prices of other Silver Age books.

Enemies & Allies

Final track being posted from the early 2000's recording sessions with Sesion31's The Incredible Mr. Fantastic Skeme Richards and The Supa Genius Fredy Blast. There are only 2 types when dealing with us "Enemies & Allies", choose wisely! Vault is now closed and locked until further notice!

Kozik SXSW Posters

I've been a fan of artist / vinyl toy designer Frank Kozik for a while and really love his work. Being a comic book fan and collector of the pre 90's I was pleased to see Kozik's work on the 25th Anniversary flyers of SXSW. His work is a play off of the old EC Comics Crimes SuspensStories, The Haunt of Fear, Shock SuspenStories, and Tales From The Crypt comics.

Frank Kozik offers up duo-helpings of his work, each decidedly different from one another, as well in separate genres of pop culture. The above-left is a swell poster art done for the SXSW 25th Anniversary, and is limited to 300 - 8 silk screened pieces sized 18" x 24".

An "Amazing" Recreation

Now this is something that I would love to have matted and framed on my walls. The first time in history that the legendary Jack "The King" Kirby has redrawn his greatest, most valuable and most recognized cover to Amazing Fantasy #15.

A pencil recreation by Jack Kirby of his cover to Amazing Fantasy #15 featuring the first appearance of Spider-Man has hit eBay for $60,000.

Sponsored by the letter E

Decided to take a ride to NYC last night with my homie Mike and meet up with The Elroy Jenkins and the lovely Ms. Santiago to check out Ewok One's gallery showing. E had some nice pieces on display for the packed house of people that attended the event. It's been a minute since I've seen my Kings Destroy fam Cope 2 and Jee who were both in the place ass well.
