Yakuza Fever

Since Im in my classic cinema mode here's a little something that looks to be really fresh coming up. Its called TokyoScope and its happening in San Francisco, I'll be venturing out there next month for Hot Peas and Butta so hopefully I'll have some time to check it out. And hopefully you've already checked out the Sesion31 Presents: Watch For The Fuzz OST that I posted up, let me know what you think.

Patrick Macias is kicking off a new lecture series, “TokyoScope: The Wild & Crazy World of Japanese Cult Films,” at the VIZ Cinema in San Francisco early next month.

The first volume, “Yakuza Night Fever,” will focus on Japanese gangster cinema, with Macias’ hour-long lecture tracing the history of the genre, packing the presentation with clips from classic yakuza films.

The event will also feature demos of Sega’s upcoming PlayStation 3 title Yakuza 3, with the sneak peek being followed by a draw of 10 copies of the game.

“TokyoScope Vol. 1″ happens March 5 (from 18:00), with tickets at $10. The VIZ Cinema in located inside the NEW PEOPLE building.

Lights, Camera, Action!

The economy seems to be good for some and bad for others. Last week I posted about another comic that sold for a decent amount, this week it seems that Action Comics #1 which is the first appearance of Superman has sold for a cool mill making it the highest selling comic of all time.

There's only 100 of these comics known in existance but this one rates at an 8.0 which is one of the cleanest copies around.

From KD to You!

New York would be New York with out Kings Destroy! My peeps Ewok 5MH and Tekync getting loose.

One of the greatest to ever do it!

Yeah I said it! Before everyone was hooked on Jordan or Kobe The Doc was the man. Julius "Dr J" Ervin that is! This was the man who soared from the line with his afro waving thru the air and crushing cats one by one with his trusty red white and blue ABA ball. Later moving from the ABA and the Nets to the NBA with the 76ers, doc's history is still legendary. Definitely my favorite player of all time and Im fortunate enough to own some really dope memorabilia from him including actual photos from his photographer, signed ABA jersey and other gems. Anyway, tomorrow marks the 60th Birthday of this great who set standards back in the 70's and 80's.

I never liked rockin' Jordans, thats for you new kids and people that couldn't afford them back in the day and hype them now like they were the shit. But give me a pair of classic Converse Dr. J's and its on!

Classic coffee table status.

I've been a fan of the Lacoste brand since the 70's, I still even possess this ill burgandy and grey sweater from 5th grade that I used to rock as often as I could. I remember in the early 80's there used to be this spot called "The Balcony" that we would hit to get all the latest gear, name belts, iron-on t's, fat laces, jeans etc. But one thing that I remember getting was the Lacoste aligator for 50 cents and then would glue it on the outside sole of my shell tops. Why they had the aligators for sale is beyond me, why I glued them to my sole? I guess it was fly for the time. Anyway, Lacoste is dropping a new book in a few weeks that highlights the brands since 1933, just like the A Bathing Ape book, Im sure my man Mikey Mcfly (photographer to the stars) would agree that this is necessary coffee table status.

It even comes in fly colors like the shirts!
